Assessments, Exams & Qualifications
At Lionheart School, we know that our students may have small to significant gaps in their knowledge and skills. On arrival, students undertake baseline assessments in a calm and relaxed atmosphere during their induction. We use the outcomes to to design our provision for each student. During the induction , students may be tested for specific learning needs which we can support them with during their time here.
Throughout key stage 3 and 4, all students are assessed informally and formally. In each lesson, students will be aware of the expectations and objective(s they are working towards. We ensure that students have ownership over their learning and learn to identify which steps they should take next.
Key Stage 3
Students are assessed in each subject area based on their skills on a termly basis. Teacher judgements are made to inform next steps for planning to ensure students make good or better progress. We run a flexible roll on/ off programme designed to address individual learning needs and transition students towards the end of Year 9 into GCSE, Functional skills or Edexcel awards as appropriate
Key Stage 4
At the end of Year 10, students take mock exams. We use these as well as work evidence to decide which accreditation students should work towards. Year 11 mock exams take place in January.
All students in year 11 take the Entry level as a stepping stone to GCSE.
